Photo Booklet Project
Art Foundations 1107: Time
Project Description:
This project introduces the skills of photography, Photoshop, and InDesign. Students will also be creating a successful composition utilizing the Elements and Principles of Art. The final product will be an 8 page booklet that may be printed and assembled anywhere.
Form: The goal of the project is to utilize Photoshop and Digital layout programs to produce a visually interesting book – with spreads that deal with the theme of "Truth/Lies." You will want to create a series of images that use "concatenation" to investigate juxtapositions of meaning and that demonstrate a good form/content match.
Content: The goal is to introduce students to ideas related to"concatenation" and meaning making through the creation of "signs and symbols." Students will create a series of images using photoshopped subject matter that responds to the ideas contained in the readings (found listed on the class website and on Canvas under "Files".
The project must utilize the following:
-
Digital images/photography (on any device capable of capturing imagery).
-
Use of Photoshop (all 8 of your images must be “composited”).
-
Use of InDesign.
-
Utilize InDesign to “Package" your files.
-
Submit the PDF version of your booklet via Canvas.
-
Print, cut out, and assemble your booklet and document the physical object in such a way that we can see your attention to detail, construction skills, etc.
-
Create a portfolio website and add the work you created for this project to your portfolio page.
Elements: Shape, Texture and Pattern, Time and Motion.
Principles: Unity, Variety, Balance, Emphasis and Subordination .
In Preparation:
Find subject matter to photograph/composite that responds to the ideas contained in the readings and the class discussions about the theme.
Technical Information:
-
You may create your digital images/photos in any manner that makes sense for your project, however the imagery must be original to you. You are not allowed to use an existing image without significant alterations, and each of your 8 pages must have some imagery that comes from a photograph you captured on your own. To be clear - each image must have compositing that contains your own photography... and if you are using other pre-existing/internet images they must be "collaged/altered" not just taken wholesale).
The Final Product:
